*I went to Cambodia on January so it was a dry season. However, if you prefer to go during wet season, please book your flight between July - September.
*Also, bring your latest USD instead of Riel because USD is widely used in Cambodia. However, they might reject your old USD and if so, you can exchange it into newer USD with a small charge at the bank.
Day 0 : SARAWAK ----> KL
- Took a flight from Sarawak to KLIA 2.
- Stayed overnight at the Aerotel Hotel (Best hotel to stay in if you are going to catch the earliest flight tomorrow.. Why? Because this hotel is located at the level 2, then you check out from the hotel and take the nearest escalator which is right outside the hotel to level 3 The Departure Hall.)
DAY 1 : KL ----> CAMBODIA
- Took the earliest flight to Siem Reap.
- Reached Cambodia and waited for our free airport transfers from the hotel that we stayed in.
- We stayed at the Angkor Orchid Central Hotel because it is near to the Pub Street, not located at the busy street so that we can get a good night sleep, the owner can speak Malay/English which is important for me so that there is no language barrier, good customer service, clean and the package was cheap!
- (4 Days 3 nights Free & Easy Deluxe room package; Buy 1 Free 1; Rm 550 for 2 people including accomodation, free airport transfers, welcome drink and daily breakfast and 1 day transportation to 9 temples of your choice in the Angkor Park.) Check out their FB!
- Reached the hotel, had our breakfast and took some rest while waiting for our tuk-tuk to start our free city tour provided by our hotel!
- We went to the Artisan Angkor and educate ourselves on the traditional Khmer craftmanship. It is an arts and crafts center so art geeks, get your freaks on!
- After 1-2 hours, we went to the Angkor Silk Farm to learn how the Cambodian silk products are made from the scratch! It was fun and very educational!
- Next, we went to the Senteurs d' Angkor. This is a place where they show you how they make the souvenirs from the raw material until the packaging! I spent quite some dollars here!
- We went back to the hotel and took some rest before we go to the floating village aka Kampong Phluk.
- We took a boat ride to the local village, took a tour around the village, get close to the locals and tapped into their everyday life. To be honest, I felt a little sad because of the poorer life quality there as compared to Malaysia. This made me realized that how lucky I am to live in Malaysia. Anyways, we took another boat ride run by the Khmer women to watch the sunset at the Tonle Sap. HANDS DOWN ONE OF THE BEST SUNSET IN MY LIFE!
- After the tour, we went back to the hotel and rest.
DAY 2 : ANGKOR PARK
- Woke up at 4AM to catch the sunrise at the Angkor Park. We went to get the Angkor Park tickets at the ticketing place (It is not located at the park itself) then headed to the Angkor Park.
- Waited for the sunrise at the left side of the Angkor Wat.. It was crowded as hell so I guess waking up at 4AM was not enough lol..
- After taking the breathtaking sunrise view, we went to the Angkor Wat (of course), Bayon, Ta Phrom, Preah Khan and so on. The tuk-tuk was included in our hotel package but there are so many tuk-tuk for hire in the city and the park itself. So no worries!
- IMPORTANT : Please wear your comfortable hiking /sport shoes because there is a lot of climbing activites to do! I rocked on my slippers just fine but hey each to its own!
- After the intense exploring, we went back to the city, had dinner and dozed our heads off.
DAY 3 : PHNOM KULEN
- Woke up early and we decided to explore the town as early as 6-7am before the tourist came in.
- Went back to the hotel and had our breakfast while waiting for our tour guide to the Phnom Kulen National Park. It was about 1.5-2 hours journey ride from my hotel.
- It is considered a holy mountain in Cambodia so please wear accordingly with comfortable shoes. You can bring some extra T-shirt and shorts (not too short though) for swimming.
- The main attraction that we visited here is the Kbal Spean, the giant reclining Buddha and the famous waterfall.
- Went back to the hotel, took a quick nap.
- Went to the Pub Street and grabbed a dinner, went to a dog's cafe, local gifts shops before hitting the local club!
DAY 4 : SIEM REAP
- Woke up late today, just kinda taking everything slow after these few busy days.
- Had our breakfast, continue exploring the pub streets, local shops, etc before heading back to the hotel.
- Getting ready for our last day activity here in Cambodia which is hot air balloon ride! We booked this experience from the moment we checked in hotel because this activity is highly dependent on the weather.
- So we went for a ride about 30-40 minutes from our hotel to this huge plain field where they are setting up the hot air balloons for us. They were about 10-12 people in each hot air balloons where we were further divided into 2 groups to balance off the weight.
- Flew up to the sky and watched the sunset of Cambodia. What a thrilling experience!
- Went back to the hotel, had some nice local cuisines for our dinner and packed for our early flight tomorrow!
DAY 5 : SIEM REAP ----> KL
- Woke up early (not 4AM again thank god) and getting ready to check out the hotel.
- Went to the airport and board for the first flight out of Cambodia in order to catch the next flight.
- Reached KLIA2 and hopped for another flight back to Sarawak.
- It is completely do-able but there is always a risk of missing/delayed flight! Keep that in mind!
Overall, I think this Cambodia trip is an eye opening experience for me. I am deeply humbled and grateful being born in a peaceful country which I am proud to say, Malaysia. Thank you so much for reading my blog! See you guys on my next post!
